Abstract

Counseling means teaching or advising women that aims to help solve the problems, needs and changes in behavior or attitudes within the scope of health services. Knowledge and attitudes are predisposing factors that influence behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship counseling in the application Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) with the knowledge and attitudes of mothers on the prevention of ARI disease on children aged under five years in Pandian Public Health Center, District of Kota - Sumenep. Cross sectional study design, determination of the sample of respondents implementing counseling using total sampling on the independent variables is 2 people, while the determination of the sample using purposive sampling to the respondent mother on the independent variable that is 28 respondents. Independent variables is counseling in the implementation of IMCI, and the dependent variable is the knowledge and attitudes towards prevention of mother to acute respiratory infections disease on children aged under five years. Implementation of the counseling data gathered through observation, knowledge and attitude data while using a questionnaire. Then the data were analyzed with Sperman's rho test. The results showed p=0.003 or <0.05, r = 0.545 means that Ho is rejected or there is a correlation between the strength of relationship counseling in IMCI implementation with knowledge on the prevention of acute respiratory infections disease in children aged under five years, and p= 0.022 or <0.05, r = 0.430 means that Ho is rejected or there is a correlation between the strength of relationship counseling in the implementation of IMCI in attitudes toward the prevention of acute respiratory infections disease in children aged under five years. In this study the implementation of counseling at a level sufficient, for that we need the attention and commitment, development efforts and further research on counseling in IMCI implementation in the future.
