Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women impacts the amount of maternal mortality and morbidity, increases the amount of fetal death and low birthweight. This study was carried out in order to find out the any factors correlated with anemia status in trimester II and III pregnant women in community health center, Kali Rungkut Surabaya. This study employed descriptive and analytical observation with cross sectional design. Interview was carried out on 65 samples in trimester II and III pregnant women chosen by simple random sampling technique. Independent variables are age, frequency of pregnancy, pregnancy interval, education, knowledge, visiting antenatal care, regularity of iron supplementation, eating pattern, and the dependent variable was anemia status in trimester II and III pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in trimester II and III pregnant women found in this study was 55%. The correlation between age and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,881, while correlation between frequency of pregnancy and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,855, correlation between pregnancy interval and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,272, P number showed by Fischer Exact test for the correlation between anemia status and education was 0,127, between anemia status and knowledge was 0,001, correlation between visiting antenatal care and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,016, correlation between regularity of iron supplementation and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,936, and correlation between eating pattern and anemia status tested by Chi Square test showed p= 0,048. The conclusion is that there is significant correlation between knowledge, visiting antenatal care, eating pattern, and anemia status in trimester II and III pregnant women. We sugest the importance of socialization about anemia danger at preventive effort and also overcoming pregnant women
