Abstract

Schools play a critical role in the healthy development of the child. In school, children are separated from their parents, and have to adapted with new condition. If they could not adapt, a stress will occur. The objective of this research was to examine the children stress in full day school, to examine the children stress in regular school and to analyze the difference between two schools. This study used cross sectional design. Sampels were children in the first year of elementary school in Khadijah Pandegiling elementary school for full day school and Khadijah 3 elementary school for regular school. Sample size was 76 children (38 children for each school), recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire and analized by Mean Whitney U Test non-parametric statistical test with significance level of p<0.05. From the result showed that p= 0,003 showed that there was a different stress level between full day school and regular school. From the study can be drawn that the stress level in regular school is higher than in full day school. In regular and full day school, teacher should modify the learning method become more refreshing to decrease students stress level. In regular school, needs improvement about the interaction among teacher and student. The environment needs to be repaired to make the learning process become fun.
