Abstract

Cognitive development is the ability of thinking process to connect, assess and consider something. Cognitive development is not the maximum results in the inability to explain what is being studied causes students trapped in failure syndrome. Hijaiyah are the letters that are used as the basis for learning to read the Al-Quran. This study aimed to analyze the relationship hijaiyah reading habits and cognitive development of preschool children ( 4-6 years old). The study design was a cross sectional study. It used purposive sampling with a sample of 16 respondents. The independent variable in this study was the habit of reading hijaiyah letters and the dependent variable was cognitive development. Data collected by using indicators Cognitive Ability and Reading Habits Questionnaire Letter Hijaiyah. They were analyzed by Spearman's rho with significance level p < 0,05. The results showed that the highest cognitive development in the category "medium" with 75% in early childhood Scholar II, while the category of "less" with 18.75%, and the category of"good" with 6.25%. The majority of respondents in the habit of reading hijaiyah with medium and high categories. There was correlation between cognitive development and reading habits hijaiyah (p=0,039 ; r=0;519) This it can be concluded that the higher the reading habits of children hijaiyah will boost cognitive development in preschoolers. Further study is recommended on the provision of appropriate interventions to address the less optimal cognitive development and use observation to identify cognitive development in preschool children (4-6 years).
