Abstract

Depression is a syndrome which characterized by number of symptoms that the clinic manifestation can be different on each person. Depression in elderly continues to be a serious mental health problem. Milieu therapy is a treatment of the patient through manipulation and modification environment element that can make a positive effect to physical and psychological condition. The aimed of this study was to analyze the effect of group milieu therapy: plant therapy on depression level in elderly. The study was used quasy experimental design, with the number of samples were 24 respondents. Independent variable in this study was group milieu therapy:plant therapy, and dependent variable was depression. The data were analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney Test, with significant level p ≤ 0,05. The results of data analysis showed p = 0,603 in control group and p = 0,002 in treatment group. The result of Mann Whitney Test was the value of p = 0,001. It can be concluded that group milieu therapy:plant therapy can reduce the elderly depression level. It can be suggested to the rumah usiawan to practice group milieu therapy:plant therapy to help elderly reduce their depression level.
