Abstract
Pain is an integral part of labour. The worst possible Jabour pain may bring bad physiology and psychology consequences on both mother and fetus. A nurse, as a caregiver for mother during labour, has to give a nursing care to relieve mother's pain perception without any negative effects. There are many nonpharmacology methods to relieve the pain during labour. One of the methods is the application of warm compress.
The purpose of this research is to study the difference of mother inpartu's pain _perception during active phase of first stage in physiology labour before and after the application of warm compress on lower abdomen. The study was designed as a pre-experimental with one group pre test-post test design. The population was all mother inpartu of active phase of first stage in physiology labour who feel the most pain in their lower abdomen. There were 10 respondents used as the sample who were taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variable was the application of warm compress on lower abdomen, while the dependent variable was mother inpartu's pain perception during active phase of first stage in physiology labour. The data were collected through interview, questionnaire and nursing documentation observation. Then the data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test with level significance of< 0.05
The result of the study showed that before the intervention, mothers perceive their pain as a very severe pain (60%) and a severe pain (40%). After the intervention, mother perceive their pain as a very severe pain (10%), a severe pain (50%) and a moderate pain (40%). StatisticaJ test signified p =0,014. it means HJ accepted.
It can be concluded that there are a difference of mother inpartu's pain perception during active phase of first stage in physiology Jabour before and after the application of warm compress on lower abdomen.
