Abstract

Leaflet is media to deliver health information or massage containing information in the form of words or picture, or combination of both, while demonstration is a media to demonstrate concept, idea, or procedures of anything that have been carefully prepared to show how to perform an action. This study was aimed to identify the effectiveness of health education using leaflet and demonstration on the improvement of knowledge and skill in passive ROM in the family of post-stroke patient in Dr. R Soedjono Hospital Selong. This study used quasi-experimental design. Population was all families of post-stroke patient treated at Dr. R Soedjono Hospital Selong. Total sample comprised 28 individuals who met inclusion criteria. The independent variable was health education using leaflet and demonstration, and the dependent variables were knowledge and skill in passive ROM in the family of post-stroke patients. Data were collected using questionnaire and observation with significance level of a~ 0.05. Results revealed that there was no difference effect between in the use of leaflet and demonstration on the improvement of family knowledge on passive ROM (p = 1.00), and there was the effect between the use of leaflet and demonstration and the improvement of skill in the family of post-stroke patients (p = 0.04). Conclusively, there was no difference in the effectiveness of the use of leaflet and demonstration in improving knowledge, but in skill improvement, demonstration was found to be more effective than the use of leaflet.
