Abstract

"The objects in this study were elementary school children living in wet and dry land environment. They were subjected to serological examination of their anti·PGL--l antibody level using indirect Elisa test. Epidemiological study on leprosy in children may contribute discourse on its trcmsmission, a very important aspect of the disease. The objective of this study was to find the percentage of leprosy seropositive in elementary school chi ldren in wet and dry land environmenL lhis was an obM:rvational ecological comparison study by comparing the result of leprosy serological test in wet and dry land environment among elementary school children within the working area of community lreaIth center Rasau Jaya, the District of Kubu Raya, West KaJimaotan. This study was perfonned to 76 elementary school children, fTom which 44 from wet land CDvironment (SDN 17 Rasau Jaya, Rasau Jaya 3 Village) aod 32 from dry land environment (SDN 12 Rasau Jaya, Pcmatang Tujub Village). We performed examination for anti PGL-l antibody OgM) level using indirect Elisa technique. The results were converted as leprosy seropositive and seronegative. The result of leprosy serological examination revea1ed that leprosy seropositive in wetland envirorunent was \3 (29.6%) and in dry land the leprosy seropositive were 16 (500/0). In concluSion, DO significant difference (p ~ 0.070) between leprosy seropositive in wet and dry land locations."
