Abstract

"Erythema nodusum leprosum is a serious complication of multibacillary leprosy patients. The prevalence of the disease is high and often causes disability in leprosy. Therefore a predictor of ENL is necessary. The objective of this study, to investigate the titer of anti PGI-I antibody in order to obtain a cut off value of 19 M, Ig G and 19 A from multi bacillary leprosy patients with ENL reaction. Sixteen ME leprosy patients with ENL from Dr. Soetomo Hospital were included in this study, together with 16 MB leprosy patients without ENL reaction as a control sample. Sera of these patients were measured for the level of anti PGL-l Ig M, Ig G and Ig A using an indirect ELISA quantitative method. The average of Ig Manti PGL-I in MB leprosy patients with ENL was 4083 ± 1615,21 higher if compared to 432,11 ± 206,56 in non ENL MB leprosy patients. The same phenomena was observed in the average of Ig G anti PGL-I titer (2772,66 ± 2046, I) compared to ( 677,1 ± 935,93 ) non ENL cases. Higher serum ofIg A was also found in ENL patient compared to non ENL patient ( 1966,98 ± 1468,57 : 110,85 ± 108,17), significant difference ( p = 0.000) . It was concluded that significant difference were found in the average tiler oflg M, Ig G and Ig A anti PGL-I between ENL and non ENL patient A cut off value of 814,74 in Ig M, 554,53 in Ig G, 376,3 1 in Ig A can be used as a predictor ENL reaction for leprosy patients."
