Abstract

To carry out an accurate assessment on children, a nurse should be able to systematically observe and perform physical examination. However, in hospitals, particularly at Pediatric Wards, Regional General Hospital, SoE, East Nusa Tenggara, most of assessment data were found not having orderly content and not in line with what needed in child assessment, so that those data were not optimal, resulting in an impression that the information provided from those sources presents as manipulated data. To create assessment recording appropriate for pediatric clients, a proper and effective standardized format should be established and applied as an instrument for assessment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of completeness and accuracy of child nursing assessment data using Head to Toe system on the improvement of nurse's performance in nursing care documentation after receiving intervention that presented as socialization at Pediatric Wards, Regional General Hospital, SoE, East Nusa Tenggara. This study used one group pretest-posttest design. The independent variable was assessment using Head to Toe system and the dependent variable was nurse's performance in nursing care documentation. Population was all nurses at Pediatric Wards, Regional General Hospital, SoE, East Nusa Tenggara, with total sample comprised 13 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaire before and after intervention and were observed and analyzed using "before after" two sample McNemar statistical test with significance level ofp < 0.05. Results revealed difference in the influence of completeness and accuracy of pediatric nursing care assessment data using Head to Toe system to the improvement of nurse's performance in nursing care documentation after receiving intervention, which was presented as socialization, at Pediatric Wards, Regional General Hospital, SoE, East Nusa Tenggara. The significance level was p = 0.004, indicating the presence of the influence of Head to Toe system assessment on nurse's performance in the aspects of data completeness and accuracy.
