Abstract
Brushing the teeth in a proper way to clean teeth effectively from food scraps but kids brushing skills are lacking. This is relates to lack of understanding about how to brush their teeth. One way to improve the skills of children in brushing the teeth is give health education by demonstration and audio-visual methods. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education between the demonstration and audio-visual methods. This study used quasy experimental. Number of samples was 22 students for demonstration methods and for audio-visual methods was 22 students with a purposive sampling technique. Independent variable was health education the demonstration and audio-visual methods, and the dependent variable was brushing skills. The collecting data was used check list. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test. The results with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test on the method of demonstration of acquired skills tooth brushing means obtained ρ=0.000, the audiovisual methods means obtained ρ=0.003. Once analyzed by the Mann Whitney U test means obtained ρ=0.035 ρ<α then H1 accepted. There is a difference between audiovisual method and demonstration method of tooth brushing skills in preschoolers children. Demonstration and audio-visual methods are equally effective in improving the brushing skills, but demonstration method was more effective. Therefore, community nurses are expected special groups to apply the demonstration method to providing health education especially in brushing skills in preschool childrens.
