Abstract

Speaking means communication. This communication make deaf-mute children is very important to all human being, including for the deaf-mute children. In activate their actualization and socialization with all the society surround them. Generally the deaf-mute children have ability in speaking but they seldom use it. Because of that the organ for speaking in their body becomes clumsy. The purpose of this research is to explain the effectiveness of articulation therapy toward the increasing of the deaf-mute children's speaking ability in SDLB B Sinar Harapan Probolinggo. The design used in doing this research is pre-experimental (one group pretest- post-test). The population used is the deaf-mute children in the 1st to 5th degrees of SDLB-B Sinar Harapan, Probolinggo who have speaking molestation. The numbers of the samples investigated are 12 inclusion-appropriated children. The independent variable used in this research is articulation therapy, while the dependent variable used is the increasing of speaking ability for the deaf-mute children. The data collected from observational sheet before and after the treatment is done. Then the data is analyzed by using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with its significance degree is :S 0,05. The result of this study shows a significant effectiveness of articulation therapy toward the increasing of the deaf-mute children speaking ability, (p=0,004). In conclusion, the research can be sum up that the articulation therapy is very effective to be applied in increasing the deaf-mute children speaking ability. Yet, the result of this research is also influenced by psychological and environmental factors of the deaf-mute children.
