Peningkatan Keseimbangan Postural Manula Dengan Latihan Balance Exercise Di Unit Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha (Upstw) Bangkalan.
Skripsi thesis, Universitas Airlangga.
Abstract
Postural Stability is a common problem in the elderly. Balance exercise can become an alternative exercise for the elderly. This exercise is performed by using five movements (plantar flexion, hip flexion, hip extention, knee flexion, and side leg raise). This study was aimed to analyze the effect of balance exercise to increase the postural stability of the elderly. This research used pre-experiment design. The population were the elderly in Elderly Folk Home, Bangkalan. The total sample was 11 respondents, taken according to inclution criterias. The dependent variable was balance exercise and the independent variable was postural stability. Postural stability was measured by 2 tests, Tinetti test and TUGT (Time Up and Go Test). The data was analized using the paired-t test with a level of significance of 0,05. The result showed that the balance exercise had a significant effect in increasing postural stability. In the Tinetti test (p=O,OOO) and in the TUGT (p=O,OO 1 ). It can be concluded that there was a significant effect from the balance exercise which increased the postural stability of the elderly. This is because balance exercise can make the elderly's muscles become hypertrophic. This hypertrophy can increase muscle strength so that it can increase the postural stability of the elderly. Further study should be involved with more respondents, for a longer time, and better measurement to obtain a more accurate result.
