Skripsi thesis, UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA.
Abstract
Diphtheria is an acute infection that is contagious, and is often attacked mainly the upper respiratory tract, with the typical signs of the onset of pseudo membranous. The distribution of this disease is spread throughout the world, especially in poor countries, whose inhabitants live in settlements that is densely populated, poor hygiene and sanitation, and health facilities are lacking. In Indonesia, particularly Bondowoso, this disease caused outbreak. This study was aimed to analyze factors related to outbreak occurrence of diphtheria in Wringin sub-district. Design used in this study was analytic with retrospective method. The population was all communities in Wringin sub-district. Total sample was 20 respondents, taken according inclusion and exclusion criteria using purposive sampling. Independent variables were age, sex, immunization, contact history, knowledge, attitude, action, sunlight spread, ventilation, population density, temperature in the house, type of the wall, and type of the floor factor. The dependent variable was outbreak occurrence of diphtheria. Data were collected using structured questionnaire and environment observation. Data were then analyzed using Spearman’s Rho test with level of significance of ρ < 0.05. Results showed that there was significant correlation between sex and outbreak occurrence of diphtheria (ρ=0.028), contact history (ρ=0.049), and ventilation (ρ=0.019). Otherwise, there was no significant correlation between age and outbreak occurrence of diphtheria (ρ=0.314), immunization (ρ=0.365), knowledge (ρ=0.163), attitude (ρ=0.080), action (ρ=0.110), sunlight spread (ρ=0.200), population density (ρ=0.432), temperature in the house (ρ=0,200), type of the wall (ρ=0.190), and type of the floor factors (ρ=0.146). It can be concluded that sex, contact history, and ventilation factors can prevent the outbreak occurrence of diphtheria. Further studies should involve larger respondents and better measurement tools to obtain more accurate results
