Abstract
Oral mucositis could affect children's health status. The purpose of the study was identified the difference of the effectiveness between gargling with povidon iodine 1% and normal saline solutions in 5-15 years old children who received chemotherapy. This research used Pre-Experiment Static Group Comparison design with the sum of the samples are 18 children and divided into 2 treatment groups and 1 control group. The level of mucositis measured using Multiple Variable Mucositis Rating Scales. To analyzing the data researcher used Mann Whitney U Test, to know the difference of significance value between both of the solutions using SPSS programme at a=0.05. The result showed an unsignificant difference between gargling use solutions of povidon iodine 1% and normal saline, with p=0.930. This result showed that normal saline as good as povidon iodine 1% to prevent oral mucositis. It can be concluded that there was no difference between the use of povidon iodine1% and normal saline as mouthwash in preventing oral mucositis. From this research's result it was suggest for the research place to use normal saline to gargling for the patients who received chemotherapy and that further research is needed for both of the solutions.
