Abstract

HIV/AIDS patients should be prevented from the reduction of immunity (CD4 T Lyphocite). One effort to prevent this reduction is by conducting exercise. If it is conduction regulary, exercise may encores adaption of body organs, provide psychological effect to immune system, increase muscular strength as well as improve immune system itself. The objective of this study was to analyze correlation betwn the applications of exercise and the incease of CD4 T Lymphocyte in HIV/AIDS patient. This study used one group pre test posttest design. The population was HIV/AIDS out patient admitted at Infectious Disease Intermediate Care Unit, Dr Soetomo hospital, Surabaya. Samples were recruited using purposive sampling, and there were 19 samples who met the inclution and exclution criteria. The observed variable were the applications of exercise and the increase of CD4 T Lymphocyte in HIV/AIDS patient. Data were collected using questionnaire, and analyzed by mean of frequency distribution and percentage. The result showed that normal CD4 T Lymphocyte before exercise was found in 0 persons (0%). After exercise there were 2 persons (10.5%) from 19 persons who had normaly CD4 T Lymphocyte. Persons with lower level of CD4 T Lymphocyte before exercise were 10 (52.6%), and after exercise this number became 11 (57.9%) from 19 persons. Persons with moderate level of CD4 T Lymphocyte before exercise were 7 (36.8%) from 19 persons and after exercise it reduced to 5 (26.3%) persons. Those with higher level of CD4 T Lymphocyte before exercise were 2 (10.5%) persons, and it reduced to only 1 (5.3%) from 19 persons. In conclusion, exercise can increase CD4 T as much as 1.5% cell/mm³ in 19 reponden. It is suggested to promote the application of exercise to all HIV/AIDS patient to improve there immune system. So that there quality of life can be better.
