Abstract

Stress in nurses is caused by several factors, including the excessive workload. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between workload and the level of working stress among ICU nurses in Dr. H. Slamet Martodirdjo Hospital Pamekasan. This study used cross-sectional design. Population comprised all executing nurses in ICU. Sampling was carried out with total sampling technique. Samples in this study consisted of 13 respondents. The independent variable was workload and the dependent variable was working stress. Data were taken using questionnaire. Data obtained were analyzed using the Spearman Rank statistical test with significance level of p < 0.05 Results in 13 respondents revealed 11 respondents had moderate workload, 2 respondents had light workload, 10 respondents had moderate working stress, and 3 respondents had mild working stress. Spearman Rank statistical test revealed p = 0.002, indicating correlation between workload with working stress among ICU nurses in Dr. H. Slamet Martodirdjo Hospital Pamekasan. From this study it is recommended that the hospitals should be able to analyze any factors that can reduce the workload of ICU nurses. One of these factors is improving ICU nurses skill by involving them in ICU training.
