Abstract

A job is an important component in an individual’s life. As part of working life, moving between jobs or switching from one job to another has been done by many individuals. An individual might switch his job when he feels uncomfortable with his old job or for many other reasons. The purpose of this study is to determine the process of decision-making taking place within individuals in switching jobs. The method used in this study is qualitative method and data collected through in-depth interviews. There are 11 informants in this study, who were selected based on some criteria, including the fact that they had gone job switching. The results of this study show that decision-making process for switching jobs consist of three phases, (1)predicisional phase, (2) preactional phase, and (3) actional phase. Within these stages, there are several factors that contribute to the decisions, namely anticipated job benefits, career aspiration, and generalized self-efficacy.
