Abstract

Betta fish (Betta splendens) is one of the ornamental fish which has attractiveness on the color that appears on their body. The export value of Betta fish is US$ 4,911. The color quality of ornamental fish determines the economic value, the beautiful color display is one of attractiveness indicator. One of the effort that must be done to obtain evenly bright color in fish is by pigment manipulation technique into feed. P. cruentum microalgae is red microalgae which has benefit is used as natural pigment source. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of P. cruentum addition in feed to color brightness, and survival rate of Betta fish. The methodology of this study used completely randomized design and the treatments which is done in this study used difference doses as P0 as control by giving blood worm, P1 with 0% P. cruentum, P2 with 1% P. cruentum, P3 with 3% P. cruentum, with 5% P. cruentum. Then it was done four replications. The study results showed that addition of red microalgae P. cruentum affect to color brightness betta fish. Betta fish color brightness changes seen in the value of hue (o). the addition of P. cruentum no effect on survival rate. The addition of 1% P. cruentum dose in feed produced the highest color brightness for four weeks as 8.50 , 15.50 , 21.00, and 27.50 , whereas 0% dose produced the lowest color as 0.00 . The survival rate during this study in each treatment weren’t significantly different as 100%.
