Abstract

Recently, resistance of microbial to antibiotic is increase. Therefore, natural antimicrobial agents is needed for alternative substituent antibiotic. The liverwort of Dumortiera hirsuta had potency as antimicrobial. The objective of these studies were to investigate the highest toxicity of chloroform, methanol, and water extracts of D. hirsuta on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The liverwort of D. hirsuta was extracted using three solvents (chloroform, methanol, and water). The antimicrobial activity of the extract was assessed by disc diffusion and continued by microdilution methods which was used to know the MIC value. Data of diameter inhibition zone and MIC value were analyzed descriptively. The result of this research showed that chloroform extract had highest antimicrobial activity.
