Abstract

Plankton has been considered an important live diet for various marine aquatic 10 species including spiny lobster larvae. Thus, studying the diversity and 11 12 abundance of plankton taxa in the natural settlement habitat of spiny lobster 13 larvae might reveal alternative live diets for the spiny lobster larvae. The study 14 15 was conducted in Tawang Bay, an important habitat for spiny lobsters in East 16 Java, Indonesia. Plankton samples were collected using a plankton net and 18 analyzed using eDNA metabarcoding and high-throughput sequencing. Of the 19 20 collected samples, 26 phyla, 40 classes, 54 orders, 75 families, 85 genera, and 97 21 species were identified. Further analysis indicated that the diversity index 22 23 was considered moderate as the value was 2.16. While the uniformity and 24 dominant indices were 0.22, and 0.24 respectively, which indicate that there is no 26 dominant plankton species in Tawang Bay. Among the identified taxa, at least 18 27 28 species including Acartia bispinosa, Oithona simplex, Oithona sp., 29 Pseudodiaptomus euryhalinus, Calocalanus pavo, and Calocalanus minutus are 30 31 potential live diets for larval of aquaculture species including lobster larvae 32 andtherefore should be further studied.
