Abstract
Novel is an expression of an author that usually is very close with the real life where the author live in. However, novel is a 1iterary work, it is not the real fact in the real life. In this thes·is, the writer uses the literary approach focusing 'on th.e plot, the character, the setting and the theme in analyzing Puritanism in The Scarlet Letter. Since it is a Puritanism analysis, the writer must base the concept of Puritanism itself as the basic of analysis.
