Abstract

This study is a descriptive study about the <1uality of English vowels spoken by some Junior High School students whose mother tongue is Javanese. In advance, the writer had made pre-assumptions that there will be an interference of Javanese vowels toward the quality of the English ones whc.n they speak English. Here, he wants to know whether or not his pre-assumptions are proved. The preassumptions made are based on the nature of Javanese vowels-In Javanese, the regularity of the occurrence of its vowels occurs in the final syllable. There were five Junior High School Students a the informants. There are selected based on some qualifications. The writer had them read 20 sentences where the observed vowels are there. Their pronw1ciations were recorded on the audio tape.
