Abstract

This study aims at determining the lexical items related to gender categories. The data are taken from the grammar book entitled Understanding and Using English Grammar by Betty Schrampfer Azar. This grammar book has been used widely all over the world and is the compulsory textbook at the English department of Airlangga University. The writer investigates the words that Azar c 'Q 12 hooses in making sentences in her book. The words are related to the gender categories. The gender categories are divided into social gender and lexical gender according to Fuertes-Olivera (2007).
