Abstract
This study is a sociolinguistic study which focuses on language choice. The objectives of this study are to describe the language choice of Javanese-Madurese Intermarriage parents, to describe what languages are used in different domains and to find the reasons why they choose to use those languages. The data are obtained through observations, questionnaires and interviews. The result of data collection are then analyzed based on Holmes' theories of language choice, social factors, and social dimensions. The overall finding of the study reveals that there are three languages chosen by Javanese-Madurese Intermarriage parents to communicate with others in particular domains those are Javanese, Madurese and Indonesia. Furthermore, the language choice of Javanese-Madurese Intermarriage parents is much influenced by social factors and social dimensions. The most influential factor is addressee. In addition, based on the social dimension, the relationship between the addressee and the addresser can be described as close.
