Abstract

There is a usual case for Surabayan people who speak slander words in their conversation. It is because slander words are famous words to show their identity or characteristics of Surabayan people. There is no research about the use of slander words among people who come from out-side Surabaya. Based on this point of view the writer tries to describe this problem in specific way. It means that the writer only focuced on students of Electrical Engineering of ITS who come from out-side Surabaya. Besides, it also becomes a limitation of this research. The use of language is closely related to social contexts. In this case, social context is viewed from a particular occasion which refers to situational variation. And the factors of situational communication are participants, setting, topics and task or purpose.
