Abstract

One of the two glycoproteins on the surface of the influenza virus particle had been identified as hemagglutinin. These proteins involved in the process of virus attachment to host cells and also functioned as a determinant of the pathogenicity level. From the aspect of disease control, haemagglutinin may be used as a vaccine. Given the important role of haemagglutinin, knowledge of the characterization which was also the goal of this research was needed. Researcher used a virus isolate that isolates AlCkllndonesiaIBLl2003 which will be tested for stability and infection ability towards the heating at 55°C, 60°C, 65°C and 70°C and time for 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes and 150 minutes. The results showed that the isolates AlCklIndonesialBLl2003 was not stable against heating at 55°C for 30 minutes and 60°C for 5 minutes. Hemaglutinin on the surface of the virus will be danaturated after heating thus losing it's ability to infect host cells.
