Abstract

Jim is presented as the young seamen who undergoes somewhat of incongruity between his self and his experience. He is innocent, immature young sailor who dreams himself to be the brave and unflinching hero in the light of literature. But the test has proved him coward after he runs away from it He moves to the remote land to escape from the reality, but still he can not forget the guilt, though he has had the fame in the new land. Here, he succeeds in developing his self and he becomes more mature and wiser. Unfortunately, something destroys his paradise and it brings him to his death. He tries to take the consequence of his responsible to protect the life in this land. His decision to choose the death is his own :free will, which is influenced by nobody but his past painful experience. It is as a result of his learning so far from his past experience that he can not escape from the guilt It would shadow him as long as his life. And he chooses the decision he feels right and best Because of his success in making U1e decision and end his long lasting conflict Finally, Jim can master his life. And the title "Lord Jim,, signifies his success
