Abstract

This study is in the form of library research concerning the translation procedures used by the translator in translating humor texts in humor book entitled Enriching Your Vocabulary Through Anecdotes 3 By Perthvi Ambamingrum. To bridge the transfer of the SL into TL, translation procedures are particularly needed. The procedures comprise Borrowing, Calque, Literal Translation, Modulation, Transposition, Equivalence, and Adaptation. The translator chooses some translation procedures in rendering humors in that book. As a result, there are some translation results acceptable and some others which sound odd or awkward. The data available are in the form of texts, which are chosen through a systematic random sampling. This study focuses on translation procedures used by the translator as well as problems and alternative translation procedures given by the writer. Presumably, the translation procedures which are frequently used by the translator are Literal Translation, Modulation, Transposition, and Borrowing where the first two procedures have the highest percentage. The result of the study reveals a fact that most translation procedures applied are appropriate but some require revisions. Furthermore, language style of the translation should also be taken care of since the language style in humors is flexible and generally non formal.
