Abstract

The primary function of language is a means of communication, manifested either in spoken or in written. The communication itself may occur in various forms. Newspapers, as one form of communication media, have a significant role in rroviding information for the readers. In presenting various kinds of information, newspaper often uses many specific terms. The use of those technical terms is necessarily made to meet the specific articles. However the jargon usage may raise problem in the process of message transmitting because not all readers understand those jargons. Nevertheless, the success of the message transmitting can be measured by the extent to which the readers understand the terms contained in the writing. In this study, English as the language of the business and economic jargons, can be a barrier for the readers to catch the message of the articles. This can be solved by translation, which function as a medium between English, the SL and Indonesian, the TL. Translation procedure, a principal part in the process of translation, has a significant role in producing an understandable translation result. Therefore, I am interested in making a study on the translation procedures of some business and economic terms in "Bis11is dan Investasi" Column of KOMPAS daily newspaper.
