Abstract

"Green tea polyphenol, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) has been proposing as a cancer chemopreventive, antioxidant and has inhibitor effect in steroidogenesis. Three groups rat (Rattus norvegicus) were treated with 4,05; 8,1 and 12,15 mg EGCGI 100 g PO in seven days to study their acute effect on ovary activity and the expression of LH receptors. Vagina smear histology has been used as an index of ovarian activity. Daily vagina smears were taken for six days. The expression of LH receptors were examined by immunohistochemistry avidin-biotin complex methode. The result showed that EGCG significantly, reduced the expression of LH receptors and extended follicular phase up to 44,4%. Theca cells showed receptor for LH, has been released from anterior pituitary. After binding to its . receptor, LH signals theca cells increased transcription of genes encoding the enzymes necessary to convert cholesterol to androgens (androstenedione and testosterone). Inhibiting effect on LH receptor caused reducing production steroidogenesis catalyzed enzymes, inhibiting ovulation and follicular growth. The expression of LH receptors were reduced significantly in 4,05mgll 00 g BW EGCG in rat."
