Abstract

Care pattern applied by parents to their children aims to facilitate the developmentof their capabilities along with the stages of their development. The development in the first five years of one's life has an important effect on the subsequent periods of hislher life,and in this regrad, one obligation of the family is to develop the children's self concept and self expression through the development of language. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of parental care pattern on language development children until 4-5 years old. TIns was a decriptive correlational non - experimental study, with the population of mothers and preschool (4-5 years) children at Diponegoro Play Group Surabaya. Samples were taken using non - probability purposive sampling with total sample of 30 individuals. Data were collected using questionnaire and observational sheet. For analyzing influence in both variables, simple linear regression test was used with significance level ofO,05 It was found that care pattern used by the parents was predominantly democratic, resulting in averagly normal language development in those children, with p = 0,004 and estimated r = 0,474. This indicated a significant influence of parental care pattren on language development in children until 4-5 years old at Diponegoro Play Group, Surabaya. Conclusively, to prevent abnormal language development in children until 4-5 years, appropriate care pattern should be applied by the parents to provide a proper stimulation according to the development of children until 4-5 years old language.
