Abstract

Multiple intelligences according to Ho wart Gardner's theory includes nine intelligences, some of which are linguistic and kinesthetic intelligences which can be stimulated through games. Educational play equipment, which may provide opportunity to develop various works from simple to complicated ones, help improving multiple intelligences in children. The plJ[J)Ose of this research is to investigate an effect of educational play equipment on multiple intelligences development in preschool children aged 4-5 year. The wsearch used quasi-experimental design. It was conducted at R.A. Dewi Sartika Kindergarten 2 Kamal in which there were 20 children aged 4-5 year divided into treatment and control groups, 10 children for each group. The data collected were analyzed using Wilcoxon S;gned Rank Test ( comparison test in two paired samples) with significance level at p ,; 0.05, and Mann Whitney test (comparison test in two independent samples) with significance level atp,; 0.05. The results of Wilcoxon test in the treatment group showed significance level at (a)< 0.05, in which the linguistic and kinesthetic development showed p-0.005, while the results of Mann Whitney test indicated significance level at (ex) < 0.05 in which the linguistic and kinesthetic development showedp-0.03. The results suggested that the educational play equipment was significantly correlated with multiple intelligences development, both in linguistic and kinesthetic intelligences in the treatment group (furnished with educative plays). This is because the first five-year age is the most important age for children that can be optimized by stimulation with educative play equipment in associated with their growth phases.
