Abstract

Family is a primary support system in psychiatric nursing care .. Jhe home care participation of a family that one of his members has a Schizophrenia disorder in decreasing the relapse is still in doubt. The involvement of the f~y is a way of reducing the deterioration of Schizophrenia client. The objective of this study is to identify the relationship between family's knowledge, attitude, behavior and the relapse of Schizophrenia client in psychiatric nursing ward C of dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. The design of this research is cross sectional. The samples, the respondents are the family of hospitalized Schizophrenia clients in psychiatric nursing ward C of dr. Soetomo Hospital, selected by consecutive sampling. The data needed in this study are collected by questionnaire. The data are computed statistically to analyze the relationship between variables by Fisher Exact test with p _=s 0.05. The result shows that there is a positive significance relationship between the family's knowledge (p= 0.005), attitude (p= 0.035), behavior (p= 0.013) and the relapse of Schizophrenia client in psychiatric nursing ward C of dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. The better they participate, the lower frequency the Sd:ri.zophrenia clients relapse. Based on the result of data analysis and hypothesis verifications, it is concluded that the home care participation of the family has positive significance relationship with the relapse of Schizophrenia client in psychiatric nursing ward C of dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. It is suggested that the nurses encourage the family's partaking care of Schizophrenia client to diminisl1 the relapse by giving health education. Thus, the family's knowledge will improve and their attitude and behavior toward the Schizophrenia client will helpful.
