Abstract

Nursing care in hypothennic high-risk infants requires qualified knowledge, attitude, and skill in order to provide appropriate and immediate care. These requirements are also needed in nursing intervention:, The objective of this study was to examine correlation between nurse's knowledge and attitude in hypothennic highrisk infants. Design used in this study was descriptif analytic design. Samples were 25 respondents in Neonatology Wards, Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya, who were enrolled using purposive sampling method. Data were collected by means of questionnaire and analyzed using Speannan Rank Correlation test with a 0.05. Results of frequency distribution showed that most of the nurses, consisting of 11 individuals (44%), had satisfactory knowledge on hypothennic high-risk infants. Majority of the nurses, consisting of 18 (72%) respectively also had positive attitude toward those infants and had provided appropriate nursing intervention. Correlation between knowledge and attitude in nursing intervention for hypothennic high-risk infants was indicated by the results of Speannan rho correlation test, which was 0,745 with significance level of 0.000, demonstrating a high correlation. It is important for nurses to maintain and improve their knowledge and attitude in providing nursing intervention for hypothennic high-risk infants.
