Abstract

Newborn is a baby from birth to age I month that often show vital signs problem (temperature, respiration, and heart rate) caused by labor's stress. It can cause death. Early initiation of breastfeeding is one of the alternative neonatal care to defend vital signs stability for infant by skin to skin contact between mother and her infant. The study was aimed to analyze effect of early initiation of breastfeeding toward stability of temperature, respiration, and heart rate on newborn at Midwifery Clinical oflnna, Magetan. Design used in this study was pm-experimental design. The population was all women that pregnancy in 37-42 weeks at Midwifery Clinical oflrma. The sample of this study taken by purposive sampling technique. Total sampel was 9 respondens, taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variabel was early initiation of breastfeeding. The dependent variabel were stabilty of temperature, respiration, and heart rate. Data were collected using questionnaire, interview and respondent observation. Data were then analyzed using paired t test with level of significance of :S 0,05. Result showed that there were effectiveness early initiation of breastfeeding toward stability of temperature (p=0,000), respiration (t,=0,012), and heart rate (p=0,040). It can be concluded that early initiation of breastfeeding effective toward stability of temperature, respiration, and heart rate in newborn. It can be caused by skin to skin contact between mother and newborn. Skin to skin contact can decrease stress of newborn so affect the vital signs (temperature, respiration, and heart rate). Early initiation of breastfeeding, is recommended for child and maternal health.
