Abstract

The attitude of therapeutic communication is one of the ways of giving therapy by communication. It needs good knowledge of communication therapeutic methods and attitude in order to reduce psychological impact to children who have hospitalized. However, nurse have to give much attention to them and nurses' should develop their knowledge and attitude during the communication. The objectives of study are to identify the nurses' knowledge and attitude of found therapeutic communication, and analyze the coorelation between nurses' knowledge and their attitude in therapeutic communication of pre school children. The design of this research is cross sectional. The samples are nurse work in children ward, are selected by probability sampling. They are 32 respondents. The independent variabel is nurses knowledge and the dependent variabel is their attitude. The data needed in this study are collected by questionnare. The data are computed statistically by chisquare Fisher Exact test wit p S 0,05. The result shows that nurses' knowledge influences their attitude during therapeutic communication. The nurse who have good knowledge (83,3%) perform good attitude in therapeutic communication. In the countrary the nurses who have lower knowledge (57,1 %) perform negative attitude in therapeutic communication with p S 0,026. Based on the result of data anaysis and hypothesis verification, it is concluded that there is a relationship between nurses' knowledge and their attitude in therapeutic communication to pre school childreen that have hospitalized in children ward of dr soetomo hospital.
