Abstract

Serious infections occurred, and is one of the biggest causes of death in the client being treated in the ICU is ketidakpatenan airway caused by foreign objects in trakeobronkial and increased sputum production, so ventilation becomes ineffective. Clients are treated in intensive care in a relatively long time at risk of nosocomial respiratory infections in this case the higher pneumonia related to an increase in sputum production, particularly client installed mechanical ventilation. Therefore, to suppress the possibility of pneumonia need to be intensified implementation of a comprehensive physiotherapy cover breath postural drainage, clapping, and vibrating. The purpose of this research is to explain the influence of physiotherapy breathing clapping and vibrating against the effectiveness of airway clearance. This research method uses quasi-experimental design (quasy experiment) design pre-post test that revealed a causal relationship in a way involving the control group in addition to the experiments. This study population is all clients who are 18 years or more with the help of the airway in the ICU RSU dr. Soetomo Surabaya in October 2009. Total population in one month is 15 people, while the sample amounted to 14 people, sampling in this study using purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed with paired sample t test and Wilcoxontest. Physiotherapy treatment clapping and vibrating breath can help spending secretions from the lungs or trachea to maintain and improve respiratory function. Therefore the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of the nurse in comprehensive physiotherapy breathing need to be increased, so that nurses can do it according to standard operating procedures.
