Abstract

Incision wound in epidermis, dermis and subcutis can recover by itself, but it need approximately fourteenth days to heal. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of Bay leaf or (Syzygium polyanthum w.) to incision wound healing process in guinea pig (Cavia Cobaya). Design used in this study was true experimental. The sample were 27 Cavia cobaya and was done randomize into three groups. The groups are control group Nacl 0,9%, bay leaf extract 100% and bay leaf extract 50%. The independent variables were bay leaf extract 100% and 50%. The dependent variables were inflammation phase (erythema, oedema, wound fluid) and proliferation phase (granulation and wound closure). Data were collected using observation paper which were observed in 2nd, 4th and 6th days. Then, data was analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Kruskal-wallis test. Result showed that bay leaf extract 50% has a better effect than bay leaf extract 100%. There were differences between bay leaf extract 50% and control group with Nacl 0,9% in erythema (p= 0.001), wound granulation (p= 0.014) and wound side (p= 0.000) at 4th day and wound granulation (p= 0.050) and wound side (0.000) at 6th day. It can be concluded that bay leaf extract can increase incision wound healing. Microscopic observation for immunohistology is needed during inflammation, proliferation and maturation phase. Further study to know the effectiveness doses and toxicity doses of bay leaf extract.
