A family has responsibility to its members in all aspects of life, including the aspect of health, particularly when of this members is suffering from a chronic disease, such as heart failure. Treatment for health failure patients present as a continuous and comprehensive care, comprising of biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspect. Adequate knowledge is therefore needed to implement family responsibility in treatment of patients with heart failure. This study was intended to investigate correlation between knowledge and family responsibility in treatment of heart failure clients in Cardiology Wards, Sidoarjo Hospital. Cross-sectional design was employed in this study, and the population was all families that took care their members who were hospitalised at Cardiology Wards, Sidoarjo Hospital. Total respondents enrolled were 28 individuals who met the inclusion criteria. The independent variable was family responsibility in health care for heart failure clients. Data were collected using questionnaire with significance level of0.05, and analysed by means of Spearman rho test. Result showed that II individuals (39.3%) had adequate knowledge. Correlation was found between knowledge and family responsibility in decision making for heart failure clients (p = 0.000), in maintaining the personality of the clients (p = 0,021), and in the use of health facilities for clients (p = 0.002). Correlations was not found between knowledge and family responsibility in recognizing abnormalities (p = 0.611) and in providing treatment (p = 0.115). It can be concluded that family with adequate knowledge feels responsible 1n making decision, maintaining personality, and using health facilities for family members who suffer from heart failure, but they do not feel responsible the recognize the abnormalities and to provide treatment to the clients.
