Abstract

Respiratory distress syndrome is the most common respiratory disorder of preterm infants (less months), and the main causes of morbidity (80% with gestational age 23-29 weeks) and mortality (74% with gestational age 23-25 weeks and birth weight 500-800 g). Mortality with cased neonates respiratory distress syndrome at Taman Husada General Hospital Bontang were have 12 cased or 54,5%. Nurse must have the basic of good skill and knowledge about handling of neonates respiratory distress. This Study was aimed to knowing correlation between knowledge from the training emergency with skills of nurse in the handling of neonates respiratory distress in perinatology room Taman Husada Bontang Regional General Hospital Design used in this study was cross sectional design. The population was nurses at Taman Husada bontang Regional General Hospital. Sample comprised 18 nurses at perinatology room, taken according to inclusion criteria. Recruted by purposive sampling. The independent variable was knowledge of training emergency. The dependent variable was nurse's role in the handling of neonates respiratory distress. The data were collected using questionnaire and respondent observation. Data were then analyzed using spearman rho with level of significance of a ::; 0.05 . Results showed that nurse 's knowledge from the training emergency did have correlation with skills of nurse in the handling of neonates respiratory distress (p = 0.045 < a = 0.05), so that the hypotesis is accepted. Coefficient correlation did have positive value (r = 0.478) showed that medium correlation. Concluded of this research that training emergency has correlation with nurse's role in the handling of neonates respiratory distress, so training of emergency in neonates should be implemented by all nurses in perinatology room Taman Husada Bontang Regional General Hospital.
