Abstract

"The stroke patient undergoes an increased temperature or hypertemia. Hypertermia in the stroke patient msy be caused by hypothalamic disorder due to the brain edema. This because the hypothalamus is less sensitive to a thermal stimulation. The objective of this research was to find out an effectivity of the water bed and tepid sponge usage on the decreased temperature in stroke patient with hyperthermia. This quasi- eksperiment research in which the sampel was drew using purposive sampling technique was conducted at in patient unit of the internal desease department present in the Catholic Hospital of St Vincenti us A Paulo Surabaya commencing from January 25,2008 to February 9, 2008. The sample of stroke patient who met inclution criteria was divided into two groups. One group was given treatment water bed observed at 30 minute interval until the temperature reached 36° C-37,4° C. Then, their temperature were the temperature measured at 3 hour interval for seven times. The data were processed and analyzed usage a paired t test and independent t test. Among respondents in research, the use of water bed and tepid sponge brought about a significant effect on the patient temperature (p :S 0,05). Regarding the result above, it can be concluded that the use of water bed and tepid sponge was positively correlated with the decreased temperature among stroke patients with hyperthermia."
