Abstract

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by Mycrobacterium tuberculosis infected from tuberculous patients to other individuals, particularly those who have close contact with the patients, including their family. To recover from Ihis disease, the patients require regular treatment in a longer period, minimally 6 months, which sometimes rendering them discontinue the treatment. family health behavior should be optimally attempted for the recovery of the patient and for preventing infection to other members of the family, The purpose of this. study was to investigate correlation between knowledge and efforts to prevent the infection of Tile in the family, Sample size was 20 respondents (families) admitted to Klampis Ngasem Community Health Center, Surabaya, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and recruited using consecutive sampling, Data were collected by using questionnaire, and the efforts to prevent TRC infecetion were directly observed. Correlation between both variables was analyzed using Spearman Rho statistical test with significance level of less than 0.05, Results revealed that 55% of the fami lies had sufficient knowledge, 40% less sufficient, and 5% poor, while their efforts to prevent TBC in the family was sufficient in 35%, less sufficient in 600/., and poor in 50%, Correlation between both variables revealed r - 0,536, and the significance was 0015 (p < 0.05), indicating correlation between knowledge and efforts to prevent TBC in the family, It is recommended for health functionaries 10 Klampis Ngasem Community Health Center to improve the knowledge of the family to prevent TBC infeClion by providing health promotion.
