Abstract
Caesarean section becomes a serious problems that increases every year. Most of those who had previous caesarean section history unsuccessfully delivered the fetus vaginally and were underwent caesarean section. In USA , 70% mothers had recaesarean section. This research was aimed to examine the correlation between mother's knowledge and attitude with the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section.
This study used cross sectional design involving women who delivered her child in RSUD Sidoarjo and had previous caesarean section history as the population. The research tested from July, 2nd to July,18th 2007. The sampling method used the purposive sampling with total sample 12 respondents. Independent variable in this study were mother's knowledge and attitude, while the dependent variable was the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section. Data were collected by questionnaire which consisted of mother's knowledge, attitude and the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section.The data were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation with significance level p < 0.05.
The result showed that the caused of fredominant factor of the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section was the activity during pregnancy and ANC. Result on knowledge and the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section were p= 0.634, indicating not significant. The result of statistical test on attitude and the effort of was p= 0.001, indicating significant level.
It can be concluded that knowledge has no effect on the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section, however the attitude to the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section history has an effect. Further study are recommended on effect of health education on increasing mother's knowledge and attitude on the effort of vaginal delivery after previous caesarean section history.
