Abstract

Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) is the ongoing process of facilitating knowledge, skill and ability necessary for diabetes self care. DSME, a comprehensive method increasing patients' ability and self care is a critical element of care for all patients with diabetes. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of DSME toward self diabetic management at DM type 2 patients in worksite of Puskesmas Pacar Keling Surabaya. This study used quasi-experimental design. The population comprised 24 respondents; consist of 12 respondents in each treatment group and comparison group, recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected by questionnaire and observation sheet. Data were analyzed by Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann Whitney U Test and Mc. Nemar Test with significance level ofp:::;O,05. The result of this experiment showed that the influence of DSME in applications of self diabetic management which is p=O,002 in treatment group and p=O,317 in comparison group. Self diabetic management consists of knowledge, attitude, practice in weight control, physical activity, monitoring blood glucose and medication. This means, there is a significant influence of DSME toward increasing knowledge, attitude and practice of self diabetic management at DM type 2 patients. It can be concluded that DSME did have significant influence toward self diabetic management at DM type 2 patients. Further study should be considered to the influence of DSME toward outcome and effect of self diabetic management at DM type 2 patients.
