Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem that requires special attention in the long In Indonesia, unhealthy lifestyle and low awareness of health with less knowledge about the disease makes treatment and handling of hypertensive disorders may be too late so it is more difficult to be handled properly and correctly. Therefore, this study conducted in order to know the effect of celery essence to the elderly with hypertension in Bratang Tangkis clinic on Surabaya. This research was a pre-experiment study using pre-post test design samples were 10 elderly patient with medium hypertension taken by purposive sampling from the population of 320 elderly patient with hypertension in Bratang Tangkis clinic on Surabaya. Independent variable was cerely essence and dependent variable was blood pressure that measured before and after the treatment for 14 days. Data was analized using t-test. The result showed that drinked celery essence for 14 days, can significantly reduce blood pressure of elderly patient with hypertension. Where t-count of 0,600 and p = 0,000. Celery essence may reduce blood pressure because it contains apigenin, pthalides, magnesium, calcium that can be a vasodilator to blood vessels and promote decreasing the blood pressure. It is suggested that elderly patient with hypertension to drink cellery essence as an alternative way to decrease high blood pressure.
