Abstract

Mastectomy can be done by radical or segmental of the mammae depends on the stadium of Ca Mammae due to Tumor size, Nodes and Metastase (TNM). This surgery can cause anxiety to the client that were influenced by some factors. This anxiety can be mild, moderate and severe. The purposed from this study was to identify correlation between therapeutic communication that was done by the nurse with the Degrees of Anxiety to the Client with Mastectomy pre operation in Surgical Ward Dr.H. Slamet Martodirdjo Pamekasan General Hospital. Design of this study was Cross Sectional with correlational approach. Population was all patient pre operation mastectomy. Sample comprised 10 respondents, recruited using purposive sampling. Research instrument used questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Spearman rho. The Study found 60% of client pre operation of mastectomy had negative perception to therapeutic communication of nurse. And 50% had a severe anxiety. Spearman rho test statistics showed a correlation between therapeutic communication of nurse with the degrees of anxiety to the client pre operation of mastectomy with a value of p<0,05. The conclution is that there was a correlation between therapeutic communication with the degrees of client anxiety with pre op mastectomy. Bad communication by nurse can increase the degrees of client anxiety.
