Abstract
Low birth weight baby with weight of less than 2500 gram, and immature organ's function, so that really need attention and special care. Kangaroo Mother care (KMC) is one of method used to take care of low birth weight baby by providing direct skin to skin contact and combined with exclusive breast feeding to support adequate nutrition. This study aimed to identifY weight of low birth weight baby before and after given KMC and to analyze the effect of KMC towards weight of low birth weight baby at Perinatology Ward, Ende General Hospital. This study used pre-post test design. The population was low birth weight baby who was taken care at Perinatology Ward, Ende General Hospotal, there were 23 respondents as sample who fit to inclusion and exclusion criteria by using purposive sampling. Independent variable was KMC and dependent variable was the increasing of weight. The data was analyzed by using Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test with significance level of (l < 0,05. The results showed that after given KMC, there were increasing of weight of low birth weight baby with 86,9% with category of very increased (20 respondents), 8,6% with category of increased enough (2 respondents) and 4,3% with category of less increased (I respondent). The statistical analysis showed that p=0,014. It can be concluded that KMC influence to increase of weight of low birth weight baby. It was because KMC can keep baby's temperature stabile, facilitate breast feeding that supporting adequate nutrition for babies. Further study should study about the effect of length of time of KMC toward the increasing of weight in low birth weight baby.
