Abstract

Acute lung oedema (ALO) is the most common and remarkably life threatening medical emergency. It is not unusual that clients come to the hospital in critical condition. ALO occurs due to fluid accumulation in the alveoli, thereby impairing gas exchange, and the client will experience respiratory acidosisand hypoxemia. The urgent ALO management that must be urgently carried out ishigh concentration oxygenation with PEEP to prevent alveolar collapse by meansof Bag and Mask oxygenation, CP AP mask, and mechanical ventilation. The objective this research is to explain the effect of oxygenation using 10 Lpm bag and mask on respiratory acidosis improvement in ALO client. This study was a pre-experimental research using one group pre-test posttest design. The population comprised all ALO clients in ICU, Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital. Sample recruitment was done using total sampling, revealing 12 respondents. Data were collected observationally and analyzed using paired Before intervention with 10 Lpm Bag and Mask oxygenation, all respondents experienced respi.ratory acidosis and hypoxemia. After intervention for 1 hour. the pH increased (p = 0.003), PaC02 reduced (p = 0.004), and Pa02 increased (p = 0.005 ). This indicated the effect of Bag and Mask oxygenation on the improvement of respiratory acidosis in ALO clients. In conclusion, oxygenation with 10 Lpm Bag and Mask is able to overcome ALO in an emergency setting in ICU, Adi Husada Kapasari Hospital .Those in charge at the emergency room should immediately provide l 0 Lpm Bag and Mask oxygenation if ALO seizure is suspected. Further studies should involve more respondents and more reliable measurement tools to obtain better accuracy.
