Abstract

ExtrapyramidaJ syndrome is an adverse effect of anti psychotic therapy. One of symptoms is rigidity, an increase in muscles tone because of lack of dopamine neurotransmitter in brain especially in extrapyramidal system.This study is to analize the effect of "SMS" physical exercise in decreasing rigidity level on psychotic patients with extrapyramidal syndrome. This study used pre-experimental: pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of psychotic patients in Flamboyan women's room-at Menur Mental Hospital. Total sample who met the inclusion criteria was six patients. They were recruited using non probability purposive sampling. The independent variable was "SMS" physical exercise. The dependent variable was rigidity level. The data was analized using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with significance level p :S 0.05. The results showed that did "SMS" physical exercise can effect in decreased rigidity level from severe could be mild level and from mild level could be normal level (p = 0.020). "SMS" physical exercise can used for minimized the extrapyramidal syndrome: rigidity symptom as a supportive care therapy beside fannakologist therapy. The suggestions are patienst must do the exercise well and at least three-times a week for optimal results.
